On the 20th June we held our annual MRG PhD Conference, titled 'Reimagining Migration: Decolonisation and Identity Across Time and Space'. Those who attended presented work from a variety of disciplines, including Sociology, Geography and Planning, Film Studies and Law, with some travelling from as far away as Turkey and Rome to attend the event.
MRG annual Conference is organised now for the 5th time, but first time for the 3rd time in a row. This is for one reason - a wonderfully PGR community part of MRG, which is every year putting a huge effort to organise it. The conference has become a big international event. We would like to thank the amazing organising committee of the 2025 conference: Amelia (Millie) Hind, Ella Monkcom, Sarah Hill, Said Zaaneen, Andrew Hughes, Yifan Bao.
This year an exciting range of presentations and posters were delivered under the themes of 'Decoloniality', 'Temporalities and Geographies', 'Embodiment' and 'Methods and Ethics', and the conference also provided doctoral students with an opportunity to connect with other early career scholars in the field of migration studies.
The conference closed with the MRG Annual Lecture which was delivered by Professor Jenny Phillimore (The University of Birmingham), who spoke about stories of kindness identified through the SEREDA project, which she currently leads.
We want to thank all the presenters, chairs and attendees of the conference who helped to make it so successful, and look forward to seeing everyone again in 2026!
